Shop Talk

Shop Talk is all about mechanical failures that have, or could possible lead to the cause of a crane accident.

Please report all crane mechanical problems that may result in an accident to the Bulletin Board Shop Talk Forum.

If it is too much detail to put on the BB, or you have photos to include, then report them via e-mail to: mechanicalproblems@cranetalk.com We will then reference it on the BB and link it back to this index page like those listed below.

  • 4/14/00: Terex RT series outrigger beam defect
A common problem occurs on the RT 230-RT190 machines in a valve called the directional valve that prevents the outrigger beams from being pulled back in. This is not life threatening but can cause problems when trying to relocate the machine out of the worksite and on to a safe location to be worked on.

A life saver I've learned is that if you turn the steering wheel all the way to ether side and keep pressure on it then hit the outrigger buttons the beams will retract. This will temporally get the machine going.

Fellows this is where you need to post your remarks, complaints, etc., for the world to see. Posting here WILL get attention and probably get results too. When manufacturers and dealers see their name associated with mechanical failures, poor service, problems and complaints listed in a public place like this for all to see, including their competitors, I imagine it will get some results. It may even prevent some crane accidents and save some lives. Exercise your right to freedom of speech, tell it like it is!

A word to the wise: Be sure you can back up your complaints and claims with documented proof and facts.
